Aram Roston’s Investigative Fund probe, “How the US Funds the Taliban,” which ran as aNation cover story, has just been named a finalist for the Daniel Pearl Award, created to honor ambitious transnational reporting of the kind Pearl was doing for the Wall Street Journal at the time of his murder. Roston’s article ran as the cover story of the November 5, 2009 issue of The Nation and sparked a Congressional investigation by the Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs, spearheaded by Rep. John Tierney, which is still underway.
And Anna Lenzer’s Fiji Water take-down, the cover story of Mother Jones September/October 2009 issue, has been named a finalist for a Maggie Award for best feature story from the Western Publishing Association, which honors journalism in the Western United States.
