Patrick Arden

Patrick Arden is a writer and editor in Brooklyn, New York. For nearly a decade, he was the managing editor of the  Chicago Reader , a pioneer of the American alternative newsweekly movement. He also served as the editor-in-chief of  Illinois Times , a winner of a "general excellence" award from the Illinois Press Association. He covered City Hall for the daily newspaper  Metro New York . In 2010, five years' worth of his Metro reporting won the Journalism Award from the New York chapter of the American Planning Association. He received a department fellowship from the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University. His work has won the 2011 political reporting prize from the New York Press Club, the 2010 Sigma Delta Chi Award for magazine investigative reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists, and the 2011 Ippie Award for Best In-Depth Story from the Independent Press Institute and the New York Community Media Alliance. He has been named a finalist for the Molly Ivins National Journalism Prize, the New York Press Club's Gold Keyboard, and the New York City Deadline Club's awards for Public Service and Reporting by Digital Media. In 2013, his writing won the Richard J. Margolis Award. Arden is currently completing a narrative nonfiction book for Macmillan/St. Martin's Press. For this book, he has received additional reporting grants from the Fund for Investigative Journalism and The Nation Institute, as well as residency fellowships at Yaddo and Blue Mountain Center. He is a 2017 Public Scholar at the National Endowment for the Humanities. Last updated July 2017
